  What is this breathwork session about? 

  Breathwork is a full-body practice that involves controlled breathing patterns for an extended amount of time. When I first started my training I thought it was sweet 2 minute destressing exercises and I was so wrong! Breathing has never come easy. Connecting to my body and my aliveness has been a hard and complicated journey. While I was in my Breathwork training I started to understand the sacredness and poetry of breath. Breath is life and life force. During my Breathwork training, I took my first conscious breath and decided to live. That was a life-altering moment that breath gifted me. We know that breathing is important to stay alive as a physiological function BUT conscious breathing can teach us about life and death. When I have done Breathwork sessions I have traveled journeys that felt psychedelic, not all people experience this but the take-away is that Breath is a healing power we all carry within us.

If you have physical or mental health conditions, please check in with your provider before going into this practice. A breathwork session can bring up a LOT physically and emotionally.

Physical contraindications- pregnancy (unless you have discussed this with your provider), epilepsy, glaucoma, detached retina, cardiovascular disease (previous heart attacks and strokes), kidney disease, severe asthma, uncontrolled high blood pressure, history of aneurysms, seizures, blood thinners such as Coumadin, uncontrolled thyroid conditions and uncontrolled diabetes. If you have mild or medium asthma (not a contraindication), have an inhaler close by!

Mental health contraindications- psychiatric conditions that affect your ability to transit big emotional release, if this is you please check with your provider.

We will start with a conversation about how you are feeling and some goals for the session. If this is your first session we will spend some time describing what might experience and showing you the different breathing patterns we will be working with. I do use some of my training in mediumship to guide the sessions. We then go into 20 to 30 minutes of active breathwork. These are NOT simple breathing techniques. These sessions are long active breathing sessions that can cause emotional and physical discomfort. It is WORK and it takes a lot to breathe for that length through the mouth. People can experience cramping, intense emotional bursts, shaking, dumbing of limbs, screaming, crying, etcetera. We then go into 20-30 minutes of grounding and chatting about the experience.

I trained and completed certification for breathwork under the guidance of Siedeh Foxie. The foundation of this practice is three different types of breath through the mouth. I have other trainings that I include in my sessions.

My name is Serpentina (they/Ser) and I am a Queer, Gender Non Conforming Peruvian Herbalist and Farmer. In the past I had offered one-on-one care and support to other through business and life consultations, herbal consultations, sobadas (traditional abdominal massage) and birth/abortion/loss doula work. Make sure you are rested, comfortable, fed, hydrated, and in a space that feels safe to you. We will be breathing for a long time and this can be uncomfortable if you eat right before the session. You want to be on the floor for this and with ample space around you for movement. Please have water, a blanket, and pillows around you. Sometimes these sessions can cause people to cry or make loud noises, so having a safe place to do this is important.
